Organising a Sock Drawer

Today I wanted to share a little organising project that took less than 10 minutes, cost me nothing and makes me smile everytime I open the drawer now :)

Zone 3 - Bathroom and Laundry (Quick Afternoon Jobs for July)

Moving on from last week in Zone 2, we are now in the bathroom and laundry zone.  Well done to all of you who did the daily jobs last week.  I know my kitchen is thanking me for doing them!

How to Make a Balloon Bunch

I learnt how to make these balloon bunches for my 21st birthday, and I have made them many times over the years, as they are so easy and look so fabulous at a party!

Bargain Party Supplies

I was very excited yesterday to find that one of my local variety stores had a new line of partyware in!  Perfect timing, as we celebrated my Mum's birthday today, and these little treasures added a fun touch :)

Hair - Messy Side Bun

This hair do is a variation of the fish-tail braid that I showed you in this post here.  Instead of leaving a plain pony tail, in the heat of summer, I prefer to get my hair all up and off my shoulders.  I also find in winter that I like to wear my hair completely up when I wear my jackets with fluffy collars (to get my hair out of the way).

Zone 2 - Kitchen and Dining Room (Quick Afternoon Jobs for July)

I am back to school for Term 3 this week, and that means back into routines!

It is Zone 2 this week in Flylady land, so here are my 5 quick jobs that I am doing (one per day) when I get home:

Monday - Sync the time on the kitchen and dining room clocks with the phone/oven/microwave clocks.

Hair - Fishtail Braid with Side Ponytail

It's been a while since I blogged about hair, so I thought I had better give you an update...

This is a really quick and easy hairdo, which feels just that little bit nicer than a plain old pony tail...

A Super Salad

I love making salads!  They are so tasty and also so healthy.  There are so many different ingredients that you can add, and I love experimenting with new salads.  I am usually the one who brings salad to a party or bbq, it has kind of become 'my thing'.

I also love experimenting with different ways to 'present' salads.  I often use large platters to serve my salads, as opposed to bowls - this allows me to be creative with the presentation.  It also means that all 'the good stuff' doesn't fall and get lost at the bottom of the bowl!  We all know what it is like digging into a salad bowl and pulling out a whole lot of lettuce, while all of the other goodies are hiding way down below!

Pictured here is a salad I made for my niece's naming ceremony/first birthday - I thought that it looked pretty special, and it was so easy to put together.

Our Fairy Godmother(-in-Law)

Last year at some stage, I was reading organisation/house-keeping tips somewhere (I can never remember where I read everything!) and something struck a real chord with me - the general notion was about giving yourself permission to ask for help.  Rather than feeling overwhelmed by all of the jobs that need to be done, and the subsequent feelings of guilt we feel when everything is not up to date, sometimes we just have to admit that things ARE too much and we need a little help.

It got me thinking... I work long hours (as do most people in today's world!).  I have always had systems in place to keep up with the housework, like daily and weekly chores, which I do each afternoon.  When we first moved in together many moons ago, I used to spend my Saturday mornings cleaning...  That worked for us then.  But quite a few years back, I decided to re-claim my weekends and allocate certain jobs to each day of the week.  It works when life isn's too hectic, but we all know that there are busy times and even the best laid plans fall by the wayside!
